Why local knowledge matters

The right upgrade depends on how a home is built. South-east London and north-west Kent have almost every type of home, from solid-walled Victorian terraces to 1930s semis with early cavity walls, concrete post-war blocks and recent new builds. Each type has its own weak points, such as cold spots, damp, ventilation or permissions, and a plan that ignores them can cause more problems than it solves.

Knowing the local housing means we know where to look. We still assess every home individually, because two houses on the same street can be very different after decades of extensions, conversions and repairs.

Types of home we see most

Solid-walled terraces. Common across Greenwich, Lewisham and older parts of Bexley and Dartford. These walls need to manage moisture, so insulation materials and detailing matter.

Interwar semis. Found throughout Bexley, Eltham and parts of Dartford. Many have early cavity walls that may or may not be suitable for filling, plus bays and extensions.

Post-war and system-built homes. Thamesmead and estates across the area include concrete and system-built homes, where cold bridges and condensation are common concerns.

Converted flats. Many Victorian houses in Lewisham and Greenwich are now flats, where shared walls, roofs and consent from the freeholder shape what can be done.

Newer homes. Recent developments in Dartford, Thamesmead and Greenwich Peninsula are already well insulated, so the focus moves to heating, hot water and ventilation.

How a project works

Wherever you are, the process is the same. We start with a conversation about the property and your goals, then visit to carry out a retrofit assessment. We check moisture and ventilation risk for each possible measure, and write a medium-term improvement plan setting out what to do, in what order and why. We can then help you brief installers and review their proposals against the plan.

Who leads the work

Projects are led by Oluwafemi Adeoye, a Level 5 qualified Retrofit Coordinator who also trained as a Retrofit Assessor. He also holds the City & Guilds Level 4 Non-Domestic Energy Assessor qualification and is an Elmhurst-accredited non-domestic energy assessor for commercial EPCs. You deal directly with the person who visits your home and writes your plan.
